- Landscape & Tourism: The Dee Valley is the scenic gateway to Royal Deeside and the Cairngorms National Park. Visitors come for iconic Scottish landscapes — this development risks harming the very reason they visit.
-
Heritage Impact: The turbines would dominate historic landscapes, harming the setting of castles, ancient monuments, and cultural sites that define Aberdeenshire’s identity.
-
Private Water Supplies: About 150 homes and farms rely on private supplies that could be damaged or contaminated. Compensation is not guaranteed.
-
Wildlife & Ecology: Inadequate ecological surveys and plans risk harming protected habitats, rare species, and fragile upland ecosystems.
-
Aviation Safety: The proposed turbines would interfere with radar and flight paths, adding complexity and risk for Aberdeen Airport serving fixed wing flights that thousands of us use and Scotland’s busiest heliport serving the vital North Sea oil, gas and wind industries.
-
Not needed: Scottish wind capacity is rapidly increasing. There is already more than enough to supply Scotland’s needs, so all new capacity must be exported hundreds of miles to England. The current ‘pipeline’ of new projects will provide more than enough capacity to meet Scottish government targets. Export capacity is constrained, often Scottish wind farms are paid to shut in at consumers’ expense. Massive, expensive grid upgrades needed to export more power will not be in place for years. This proposal is simply unnecessary.
-
As this windfarm is being built on peat it is unlikely that it will ever pay back the carbon cost of construction and operation.
